Mental Health Counseling

For adults who keep holding everything together, and are tired of doing it alone.

You may be the one others count on. You keep going no matter how much is on your plate, and somewhere along the way your own wellbeing slipped down the list. Maybe it shows up as anxiety, drinking more than you'd like, trouble sleeping, or a feeling that you've been running on empty for a while.

Counseling is a place to slow down, look honestly at what's happening, and build practical ways forward.

Who I Work With

I work with adults and older adults who are navigating:

  • Anxiety and chronic stress

  • Substance use, including alcohol

  • Behavioral patterns that feel hard to change

  • Burnout from a demanding life or career

  • Career decisions and major life transitions, including midlife and aging

  • Low self-esteem and trouble sleeping

These struggles rarely show up alone. Anxiety often lives in the body. Substance use can cover up exhaustion. Chronic stress wears down sleep and self-worth. Together, we look at how the pieces connect.

How I Work

I don't start from a diagnosis or a list of what's wrong. I start with what's already happening in your mind and body, and we build from there.

I draw on:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): noticing the thought patterns that keep you stuck

  • DBT skills: practical tools for handling strong emotions and stress

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): acting on what matters to you, even when things are hard

  • Motivational Interviewing: exploring change at your own pace, especially around substance use

  • Person-centered and mindfulness-based approaches

In our first sessions, we'll talk about what brought you here and decide together which approach fits.

My Training

I'm a rostered psychotherapist in Vermont, completing my MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Vermont State University. I practice under the clinical supervision of [Kathleen Landry, Open Gate], and I work as a substance use and mental health clinician in a community mental health setting.

  • Rostered Psychotherapist (Pre-licensure), Vermont OPR #[097.0136538]

  • Apprentice Addiction Professional, Vermont OPR #[149.0134056]

  • MS Clinical Mental Health Counseling (in progress), Vermont State University

My background in farming and nutrition shapes how I think about the connection between mind and body. Counseling, though, is its own service, separate from my health coaching.

Common Questions

What happens in the free consultation?
We'll talk for 20 minutes about what's bringing you here and whether my approach is a good fit. If it is, we'll schedule your first session. If it isn't, I'll do my best to point you toward someone who is.

How is counseling different from your health coaching?
Counseling is mental health treatment: therapy for anxiety, substance use, stress, and the patterns underneath them. Health coaching focuses on food, habits, and daily routines. They're separate services, and [I don't provide both to the same person at the same time].

Is what I share confidential?
Yes, with a few legal exceptions, such as a risk of serious harm to you or someone else. I'll go over this with you in our first session. Because I'm in pre-licensure, I review my work with my clinical supervisor, who is also bound by confidentiality.

Do you see people in person?
[Right now I'm seeing clients online only.]

Getting Started

Reaching out can feel like a big step, especially if you're used to being the one who has it all handled. You don't need to have it figured out first.

If you're in crisis, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), or call 911. I'm not able to provide emergency or crisis services.
